The brand was started by Zainab Ashadu who is the creative director at Zashadu. She has a diverse background encompassing art curatorship, architecture, acting and fashion styling. Ashadu began her career as an actress in London, then moved into architecture where she explored the spatial relationship between geometry and fluidity.
Nigerian entrepreneur Zainab Ashadu has had an eye for fashion since she was a child. Moreover, growing up, she fell in love with a beautiful art deco-style clutch bag that belonged to her mother. Therefore, Ashadu started the business when she returned to Nigeria after living in London for 12 years. She operates out of a Lagos-based workshop with a team of local artisans, who hand craft the products from traditional techniques passed down through generations by a community of local artisans.
