The newest and freshest addition to the hip hop and trap fraternity in the Kenyan scene, Vikstar (He’Fe) has hit this year with a new single titled ‘Fak3s’ (Fakes) released 11th February. The rap flow content is honest, interesting – (in a hilarious way) and quite explicit. It’s early for him to self-proclaim himself as the ‘best in the game’ simply given that he is a rapper. But yet again, isn’t it the norm for rappers to personify their egos ‘to be the best’ as an important part of their identity? We’ll find out.
With bar lines like – “…I ain’t Safaricom don’t treat me like an option, cause I am the better option…” and the chorus that birthed the title of the song – “I am allergic to fakes, I hope I make it till the end…” invokes a hopeful relativity aspect in the world we live in today. There are many fake people around us that masquerade themselves as being genuine, and keeping away from them will put you leagues ahead in reaching your success.
The general message passed on is based on staying true to his hustle which is making music and gaining success from it – in his terms ‘making money matters more than being in sexual relationships’.
The rhythmic hi-hat effect applied in the song mashed with a sound of a steady flute playing in the background makes it a ‘wavy’ tune. It’s a hit from me. Tell me your views on what you think of the song – was it a hit or a miss?
