Tongoro is a purely made in Africa label designed and produced in Dakar, Senegal. Tongoro was launched in the spring of 2016 by Sarah Diof. Sarah started Tongoro with the aim of empowering local artisans while celebrating African prints and fabrics. The brand focuses on understanding the fashion that customers want and it offers a playful and unique apparel. The brand sources its materials on the African continent and works with the local tailors with the goal of creating a new dynamic for Africa based manufacturing and foster the economic and social development of artisanal workers in Western Africa. Tongoro has gained international brilliance since its launch with the likes of Beyonce, Naomi Campbell, Alicia Keys, Iman and Burna Boy. Beyonce brought Tongoro to the world’s attention. She wore four of the brand’s look on ‘The Lion King’ ‘Spirit’ video.
Tongoro offers billowing jumpsuits and dramatic dresses with bold, graphic patterns and vivid colours, that are appropriate for every event in the calendar, from weddings to garden parties, and dates. Their aesthetic feels directional and African forward.
