The first digital super model

I remember the day I scrolled through my instagram and came across Shudu Gram. I was stunned by her beautiful skin, perfection and poise; only to find out that she is not real.

Yes, you heard me!  Shudu gram is the first digital supermodel. The photographer Cameroon-James who creates every image of Shudu Gram with a painstaking level of detail from his computer, pointed his inspiration to emanate from the likes of Lupita, Alek, Duckiethot and Nykhor.

Despite this beautiful masterpiece of art, there has been a lot of back lash from the black community on twitter. They did not hold back on their disappointment that Cameron-James, a white photographer, digitally created a dark-skinned model instead of giving the platform to real-life black women… who he’d need to pay for their work.

In an interview with highsnobiety, Cameroon was clear to state that his view for Shudu Gram is not a money spinner or a business but more of an art expression. In his words, Shudu Gram was not created to replace or take opportunities away from real life models but rather add standard of beauty that’s being shifted to something much more inclusive.

What’s your take on the first digital super model? Is this this the first step in replacing models?
