Moses Turahirwa

Moses Turahirwa is a Rwandese fashion designer. He is the pioneer of Moshions Brand. Initially, Turahirwa was a commercial and runway model but he fully embraced design in 2015. He first earned recognition as Mr. Integrated Polytechnic Regional Center, Kigali. Moreover, he has represented Rwanda on the continental beauty pageant as Mr. Africa International. He was the 2nd runner-up. Nonetheless, in 2015, he launched his cultural designs, Moshions, in Rwanda. Indeed, his apparels are reshaping the perception of the African fashion industry. Additionally, his designs are becoming statement pieces for both informal and formal festivities.

Turahirwa’s brand is pushing African Fashion wear to a global scale. For instance, he has paraded his designs in Men’s Fashion Week Nigeria, Windhoek Fashion Week, Tribal Chic, Collective Rwanda Fashion Week, Swahili Fashion Week and Mercedes Benz Africa fashion festival among others. Furthermore, the best part is that Moshions crafts clothes for both men and women. Therefore, below we have highlighted some of the designs by Moses Turahirwa.

Ishuri Collection, Moshions SS 2021

The Creative Director Moses Turahirwa tells a personal story through a vibrant collection known as Ishuri. Ishuri means school. Specifically, he crafted the pieces in this collection with daring hues and shades as a metaphor for beauty in diversity. Moreover, the collection depicts the life of students, whom the society labels unwelcome, but, still manage to carve out an adventure of their own.

Gakuru Blouse

One of the designs in the collection is the Gakuru blouse. It is a silk blouse that has a relaxed format, cuffed sleeves, a high neckline and covered back buttons.

Mukoshe Mushanana

Moreover, the Mukoshe Mushanana design embraces the traditional Umushanana Rwandan cultural aesthetics. As such, the set includes a fitted shirt with a custom printed collar and cuffs. Additionally, it has a pure silk wrap skirt with custom-printed Umwashi and an exquisite silky drape as a top. People can buy the set together with a hand-beaded shoulder brooch.
