How to Make Natural Home-Made Lip Balms

You can easily and conveniently make your natural home-made lip balms during this time of quarantine and isolation. Since chapped lips are a universal problem, many people use lip balms or other body oils to keep their lips smooth. The majority of consumers prefer natural lip balms rather than synthetic ones. Some of the ingredients to avoid when buying the lip balms include parabens such as preservatives as they may breast cancer. Additionally, people should not use petroleum jelly on their lips as it blocks pores and contains chemicals that cause estrogen dominance. Below we have highlighted different natural home-made lip balms and how you can create one for yourself during this quarantine and lockdown period.

Beeswax Lip balm

This product has a soothing combination of coconut oil, peppermint, and shear butter. Moreover, not only does it smell nice, but, it is also nourishing and effective.


  • 10 grams of beeswax
  • 5 grams of shear butter
  • 5 grams of coconut oil
  • 10 gram of food-grade castor oil
  • 3 drops of lemon and 7 drops of peppermint essential crew.


Melt the beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil. For every gram of beeswax that you use, add 3-5 grams of oil. Add the castor and all other oils and begin to stir. You can always rewarm it to keep the balm warm. Note that if you live in a hot environment, one should put more beeswax than the proportion of oil.  On the contrary, if you prefer a softer texture add more oil compared to the beeswax. 

Medicated Lip Balm

Medicated lip balm has specific ingredients such as menthol or camphor which ease the pain from the dry lips.


  • 3 grams of coconut oil
  • 4 grams of cocoa butter
  • 3 grams of coconut oil
  • 20 drops of essential oil


Put all the oils except the essential oil in a glass. Add water to the glass and heat at a low temperature until it boils. Heat it until all the contents melt. Transfer the content to plastic containers.

Tinted Lip Balm

Tinted lip balms involve the addition of pop colors such as red and purple.


  • 3 grams of Alkanet root powder
  • 3 grams of Madder root powder
  • 3 grams of Light-colored carrier oil
  • Tea strainer


Blend the powders until they become fine. Heat the oil until warm. Add the blended powder to the oil then stir to ensure that they have mixed well. Lastly, filter the content with a tea strainer.
